Wetland Landscapes

Photography can be challenging at the best of times. Try throwing a 2 year old in a backpack into the mix. “Hold still – Daddy’s trying to take a photo!” You get the picture!

Today we took an impromptu walk in Paradise Meadows in Strathcona Provincial Park with both kids in tow (almost 2 year old Alden and 3 month old Clara). In the wetland meadows are several ponds with both Narrow-leaved bur-reed (Sparganium augustifolium) and a number of species of rushes and sedges. I’ve always liked the play of the bur-reed on the water and the green at the edges of the ponds. I took these images at the end of our walk in a light rain. I didn’t really have time to set them up properly but I think that they worked fairly well.

These wetland meadows are beautifully sublime. Make sure to notice them on your next summer walk around Paradise Meadows. The boardwalk provides excellent viewing and is easily accessible for both young and old. Aside from some step-ups and step-downs, the path around the meadows is suitable for individuals with mobility issues.
