I prefer to focus on the smaller details and patterns in nature. I admit that I’m not a good landscape photographer. However, I do like looking for abstract images in nature. For me it’s more rewarding to take the time to study an object and to look for the part of a thing that tells the story of the whole. Such was the case of this cedar abstract.
I noticed this dark opening into the hollow interior of a cedar tree while walking around the Paradise Meadows loop trail in Strathcona Provincial Park. While I mostly focused on photographing the wetland meadows, this tree was striking. The texture of the weathered wood contrasting with the darkness of the interior was interesting to me.
