A Trio of Lichen

I’ve begun taking regular lunch time walks and exploring the farm fields and country lanes around my workplace in rural Comox Valley, British Columbia – at least when the weather is good.

Often I’m a little stretched for subject matter, especially at this time of year. Fortunately, lichen always adds some colour to grey winter days. This week, I focused on lichen growing on the old cedar fence posts and shrubs that mark the edge of a nearby field.

These aren’t perfect macro shots – tripod work doesn’t really fit into my compressed lunch and walkabout – but they do convey some of the beauty of these lichens. I haven’t attempted to key them out but might give it a go at a later date. Until then this trio shall simply be called yellow, grey, and green. Enjoy!
