Was driving down from Paradise Meadows last week and spotted a rough-skinned newt (Taricha granulosa) crossing the road. I quickly stopped and helped it to some leaves on the other side of the pavement.
You can read more about Rough-skinned newts in British Columbia at the Ministry of Environment’s Frogwatch fact sheet on Rough-skinned newts.

I love all the texture in that shot and good for you for helping the newt cross the road.
Here on Cortes Island the newts are everywhere! Now that the rain has started they are coming out to think about breeding…I ride my bike so stop every 20m or so to relocate a newt as it slooowly crosses the road (they are cold and sleepy)…help the newts!
