Cave Creek Canyon – Arizona Skywatch #4

Cave Creek Canyon

With the cold October rains beginning here in British Columbia I returned to my photographs of last spring’s trip to Arizona in search of blue skies and warm memories for this week’s Skywatch Friday post. Part of our trip took us to Portal, Arizona and Cave Creek Canyon. This area is renown for its birding and was a prime destination for us in terms of both natural beauty and specific types of birds. It’s an interesting place to bird because you have so many different habitats in close proximity – desert scrub brush, lush canyons, and access to higher elevation forests of pine and fir.

We spent three days in Portal birding the Cave Creek Canyon and the surrounding desert scrub. The nights were fabulously filled with stars and during the day skies were a rich, endless blue – enjoy!
